Relationships-It Takes Two!

There is a particular pattern prevalent in how people "do" relationships.  This pattern always stems from the desire for the other person to be something they are not.

If they show us the "potential" that they could become that person we desire, we many times will put ourselves "on hold", so to speak, being in relationship with the desired potential rather than what that person is showing themselves to be in this moment.  Perhaps it is a potential they desire themselves to be as well, giving all the appropriate words and admonitions.  We hang on to the hope, patiently waiting for that day when they will become our ideal and at the same time fearing that they will not!

Who we are is always defined by our actions and behavior...what we show ourselves to be now.

Real change in pattern generally does not come as easy as we would hope, and then, only when we are consciously aware and have sincere resolve for such change.  Are you involved in relationships with another person's "potential" rather than what they honestly show you as to who they are?

Here's an exercise:

Make a list of all the things you desire for that person to be.  Next, make a list of what you fear that they will not be.

Now, take a deep breath...and sit for a moment with an attitude of complete acceptance, letting go of all resistance to seeing the Truth.  Take your time...

To the best of your ability, make a list of what actually "is".  What is the truth about your situation with this person right now?

Now, the next level of acceptance is that of our part in the relationship.  It's easy to point the finger at "them" as being the problem. But the real truth is we are participating...we are taking part.

As I said before,  Who we are is always defined by our actions and behavior...what we show ourselves to be now.  For instance, if you are in a relationship in which the other person always compromises you in some way,  the real place to look is in the fact that you are allowing it!  You are taking part.

When we can accept our part, with no judgment...with an attitude of unconditional love and forgiveness...when we can bring all the passions, desires and fears to stillness...then, from a quiet place of calm, we can choose differently.  It is only from stillness that we will find the clarity to change our own pattern (which is simply the complement to the other person's pattern.)

Will they like it or be ok with it? Probably not.  When we make a real change, our relationships either change with us...or leave.  Real change in a pattern brings its own "tests" as to if our changes are real.  This is why true acceptance and calmness of mind and heart are so important.

We must accept that we have the pattern and are very capable of repeating it.  The humility to accept this truth about ourselves, with an attitude of love and forgiveness toward ourselves, is the heart of real change.

One day at a time, accepting our pattern while simultaneously making different choices for something better in the process...this is the path to adopting a new pattern to replace our old one. It requires the humility and resolve of consistent effort that never lapses.

With attitudes of egoic defiance, saying things like "I'll never ever do that again!",  we just set ourselves up to repeat the pattern.

Now, take some time to use the exercise we did earlier on yourself...to look at your own patterns.

I hope you will take the time to contemplate this message deeply and that it may bring you real benefit in your life.  As we approach the time of Solstice and renewal, may you use it as an opportunity for real change for yourself.

Sit for a moment, close your eyes...and simply breathe...

The following will be our Affirmation Prayer.

Find some quiet time to create inner “sacred space” for yourself.

Soft music can help…Breath of Angels,  perhaps, if you already have it.

Calm your mind, relax your body, and connect your being to God as you understand it.

I encourage you to daily read this slowly, speaking it out loud if you can.

Allow spaces of silence between each phrase of affirmation, accepting with

humility and faith that the word you speak is taking place now.

AFFIRMATION PRAYER

I turn my attention now to my breath and to the very beat of my heart,

letting everything else fall away...all doubt...all fear...all confusion.

I allow them to dissipate now.

For at the center there is a quiet place.

It is calm.  It is still.

I Am That I Am.

I breath slowly and quietly...

Be still...and know...I Am

God.

I affirm the clarity of Truth that is already within me.

Whatever I need to know...

Whatever I need to understand...

I know now.

I understand now.

I am the consciousness of acceptance and humility...and for this I have deepest gratitude.

I accept the Truth now.  I accept the truth of myself...and the truth of my relationship(s).

I do this in love.  I do this in complete surrender.

I accept complete healing right now, allowing my mind to just be quiet.

I accept this healing energy into the whole of my being...mind, body and spirit...

touching every dimension I know myself to be.

I am immersed in light.  I am made whole.

In the acceptance of clarity and Truth I now know exactly what I need to do to set my world in order.

I do this now from a place of acceptance, love and respect for all concerned.

I accept, heal, bless, and renew in this place of the Divine.

And so it is!

Amen.

From Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence

This song will be available for listening until the next newsletter issue

(approx. February 1, 2008)

Since we are entering the Christmas Season now, I have chosen "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear" from my instrumental Christmas album called "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" as the featured selection.

I grew up in a relatively small town and began playing the piano for the Baptist church when I was the ripe old age of 9 years.  My classically trained "favorite" uncle, ( who was more like a brother ), played the organ.  One Sunday he decided that it was time for me to learn to play it as well.  So we switched places.  I was having a blast, but my dear mother nearly had a heart attack when she came down from her Sunday School class to find her little girl perched on that organ bench, smiling and playing away!

I had the good fortune of a very talented early music teacher and her sister who had also played for the church.  In my early years I picked up everything I heard and began playing it.  This was the fertile ground from which I created all kinds of piano arrangements of favorite hymns.  It was just a natural thing to do.

A few years ago my mother requested for me to record some of those hymns for her, which I did.  One Christmas, I decided I would do that with Christmas favorites.  Even though I had a terrible flu the entire time I was recording, I think I had some help because it turned out quite nice!  Thus the album, "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" was born.  Hope you enjoy this selection!

Current News & Announcements

I am pleased to announce a new CD to be released very soon!  (By approximately December 15th if all goes well.)  The "heart" of this CD is a meditation piece I have chosen to call "Reikidama™".   Reikidama™ comes from the word "Reiki" and the word "kotodama".  Kotodama is a Reiki practice lesser known to the western world of Reiki.  Kotodama means "word spirit" or "jeweled words".  The CD also includes another song inspired by Reiki a few years ago called "Hands of Dancing Light", "Spiral", and a Hatsurei-ho Meditation.  I will send out a special announcement when it is released, so be on the lookout for it soon!  As this unfolds, I will be creating a section of my website devoted to Reikidama™  and teaching forms of healing, using this creation, as they are being presented to me by Spirit. This journey has been such an incredible blessing.

On November 11th I had the privilege of taking part in the 10th Year Anniversary Celebration at The Divine Fellowship of Richland, Washington.  What an awesome group!  We had so much fun drumming, singing, praying, healing and celebrating together.  I was deeply moved by the humility and sincerity of these people.  Divine Fellowship, you rock!  Since I had never been to the northwest before, they even took me on a little "adventure" over to Seattle. Below are some pictures from the trip.  Enjoy!

Wishing You Peace and Joy for the Holiday Season!
