Keys to Forgiveness Part II
In Part I we covered the first four keys:
KEY #1: Recognizing and Owning the Need to Forgive; KEY #2: Responsibility for Your Part;
KEY #3: Acceptance; KEY #4: Commitment to Yourself (Willingness to Forgive)
Now, let us continue. May The Following Keys Open
Portals of Clarity and Blessing For You:
KEY #5: Non-Judgment
The very reason there is a need for forgiveness is that we are holding on to a judgment toward another, or ourselves…or both. Somewhere in our heart and mind we have made them “wrong”.
One of the most essential and effective ways for us to return to a state of peace is to move in our mind and hearts to a place of non-judgment. Hold no thought for or against the situation or person.
Whatever we are judging, we have, at some point, made it “wrong” or “bad”…versus what we hold to be “right” or “good”. Try to view the situation as something that just “is” without judging it right or wrong…good or bad. By judgment here, we are referring to our emotional attachment…and this emotional attachment is what obstructs us from true forgiveness. It is the place where we are still resisting acceptance. It is the place where we are most tempted to “delight” in indulgence, considering it harmless and inviting and thereby not recognizing the danger it presents.
The practice of non-judgment requires a commitment to a higher truth. It requires a discipline of mind and emotion. It is an “act of maintenance”... (which we will be discussing shortly.)
KEY #6: Present Moment
Hand in hand with non-judgment, is bringing ourselves back to the present moment. The past is done…the future is not yet here. In truth, the only thing that really exists is the present moment. So, rather than continually reliving the past...the event we have been so harshly judging...come back to right now.
Every time you are tempted to go back to relive that past in your mind, bring yourself back to the present and make the conscious choice for a new paradigm of an open peaceful heart…which can only be lived in the present!
KEY #7: The True Meaning of Virtue
You are not your emotions. You have emotions, but YOU are not your emotions. It is critical to understand yourself as a Spiritual Being having a human experience. As humans, we have emotions, but “who we are” is a truth far beyond what emotions understand.
Recognizing the distinction between emotion and Truth is absolutely critical in true spiritual development. Clarity in understanding this distinction (between emotion and Truth) and making a clear, conscious decision and commitment of will to stand in the Truth and to act on that Truth when faced with the choice is...THE TRUE MEANING OF VIRTUE. The Ancient Sages consistently emphasized this point.
“Through the eye of a needle…someone once said…” ("When It’s All Said and Done"- THE FARMER’S DAUGHTER )
(Note: This key is not about denying that you have emotions, but rather regulating them so that the Truth is the dominate force in your life.)
KEY #8: Forgive Is A Verb
So many times we treat forgiveness as a “one-time” event. The problem I see here is that we can easily move into a place of denial rather than true forgiveness.
Forgiving is an act of maintenance. It’s a change in paradigm…a change in one’s way of being in regards to the person or situation we are forgiving. We must consistently hold to this new paradigm. This requires continuous self-examination of our intentions and alignment with the truth of our new paradigm. Old ways of thinking and judging don’t die easily. We must make every effort to keep our focus on the new condition we are creating and stay present in this new paradigm.
KEY #9: Alignment of Words and Actions
All of the right words are meaningless unless our actions are congruent with them. If we wish to influence others, we must first influence ourselves. Our words must be supported by our entire conduct. The duration of firm, consistent conduct will make such an impression on others that they can adapt and conform to it. Without this consistency in our conduct and behavior, our words will have no effect.
As I stated in the opening message of Part I, it is our indulgence in negative emotions that allows the darkness to gain momentum, darkening the light within. If we resist the temptation to indulge from the start, the darkness of negative emotions can never gain such influence.
To effectively resist the temptation to indulge, we must first be honest with ourselves, taking responsibility for the fact that we are tempted to indulge. If we choose not to indulge, then "Acceptance", the "Present Moment" and "Non-judgment" are powerful allies. At this point of decision, move your focus to the present moment; accept “what is” without judging anything.
Remember, our judgment comes from our attachment to our own view of right/wrong, good/bad and so on. In humility and sincerity, let go of your resistance to “what is”. Do not fear the Truth, for the Truth really will set you free.
Find some quiet time to create inner “sacred space” for yourself.
Soft music can help…Breath of Angels perhaps, if you already have it.
Calm your mind, relax your body, and connect your being to God as you understand it.
From this place, align your soul with its Source.
You can use the following prayer of affirmation to assist you
in your process of healing and forgiveness.
I encourage you to read this slowly, speaking it out loud if you can.
Allow spaces of silence between each phrase of affirmation, accepting with
humility and faith that the word you speak is taking place now.
As I take a few deep breaths, I focus on that very breath within me.
In this moment I recognize that this Life Force that animates my very being...IS GOD.
In this realization I accept with humility right now, that in Truth,
I am not separate from God.
I accept that the Breath of God is my very breath.
I am in God...I am of God...God is in me.
"...the kingdom of God is within..."
I am that I am...be still and know that I am God.
"The word was with God and the word was God..."
When I speak my word affirming I am_______ ,
I participate in the creation of my reality.
I am that I am...be still and know that I am God.
I now release all judgment of myself and others that would
obstruct my ability to forgive completely.
I accept now the consciousness of a new paradigm of Peace and Unconditional Love.
I accept now the healing this brings in my life.
I accept fully the clarity I need to BE Peace.
I sit silently for a moment and experience
the healing that is taking place in my heart now...
I know that it is so...and I give thanks.

Health and Healing: It's An Inside Job!
True healing comes from the inside. In the healing work I have done over the years, I have found that so many times, when a person is in crisis or in need of healing, the first response is to look completely outside of themselves for that healing.
Of course, go to whatever physicians or health care providers you need to. But remember...on a deeper spiritual level, true healing requires your participation.
In the healing group I am presently working with, an important part of our work comes in a form of advice from the spirit realm that requires the person receiving help to do their part. For all the effective work that can be done by healers, therapists or health practitioners of any kind, it's only a "Band-Aid" if the deeper levels are not addressed by the individual receiving the help.
In writing this, it seems to me this point would be obvious, but I have found that in the reality of many...it is not.
No matter what kind of health care you receive...the real healing IS an "inside job".

My Current News:
My website now has a new look! Though the change was spawned by some "behind the scenes" technical problems that couldn't be resolved, I'm very happy with the results. Hope you like it as well. We've tried to keep navigation as user friendly as possible. Feel free to let us know if you have any comments.
This summer has been filled with many blessings from Spirit. The times of sabbatical were much needed and have left me with greater clarity and insight toward the future. One of the blessings of this time was making relations with a very special Navajo family in Arizona. I found them warm and receptive, with sincere hearts, big smiles, and a quiet humility that touched me deeply. There were others of this Navajo community that also seemed to carry those same qualities. My knowledge of Navajo culture is somewhat limited, but I do know that those of goodness follow "The Beauty Way". By my experience in making these relations, I can certainly say they carry that essence of beauty...like the beauty of nature and all that is natural. To you my Navajo friends, I say "Thank You" for this blessing of relationship.
To all of you who come to my website and find a meaningful connection here...you are always included in my prayers...
May you be blessed with a quiet heart.
May you know peace by being that peace.
