The Shock of Thunder!

"The winds of fate are blowing now, the sky is turning gray.  Thunder Beings dancing,

they listen as we pray. When man sits all alone it is himself that he must face....No one can

decline for we are all the human race.  When we see the limits of our power, we bow our

heads in humility.  God comes Thunder!

From the song "Thunder" -  Album : Thunder by Denean

In recent Lakota ceremonies, a Thunder Being friend from the spirit world relayed a message that there are some big shocks coming to humanity...shocks that bring the kind of change in our paradigm that our world will never be the same as before. Those in high places will be facing the common people on common ground, face to face.  Now understand that the spirit realm most of the time speaks in metaphor rather than a specific time frame as we know it or predictions of detailed events.  The shocks spoken of here refer to the unfolding of things that we are actually already in.

In again asking of the I Ching what you need to know from me, I was given Hexagram 51 which is called "The Arousing or SHOCK...Thunder.  With this repsonse it seemed clear that this message from ceremony, the understanding of Shock/Thunder, and the correct behavior in order to deal with it would be the important message here.

There are times when such shock can be pleasant surprises.  And other times, shocks that initially seem as though you are placed at a disadvantage may turn out to be a very good thing in the end and the initial terror is relieved.

Thunder and lightning are unpredictable forces in nature and this holds true for the shocks we speak of here as well.  Just know that as in nature, when you hear the thunder, the danger (of the lightning strike) has already passed.

In the I Ching (Wilhelm-Baynes Translation) the text describe thunder:  "...this movement is so violent that it arouses terror.  It is symbolized by thunder, which bursts forth from the earth and by its shock causes fear and trembling."

In the text of the judgment it goes on to say:

"The shock that comes from the manifestation of God within the depths of the earth makes man afraid, but this fear of God is good, for joy and merriment can follow upon it."

"When a man has learned within his heart what fear and trembling mean, he is safeguarded against any terror produced by outside influences.  Let the thunder roll and spread terror a hundred miles around;  he remains so composed and reverent in spirit that the sacrificial rite is not interrupted.  This is the spirit that must animate leaders and rulers of men - a profound inner seriousness from which all outer terrors glance off harmlessly."

In this last sentence above, we are shown what we must be like in order to handle the shocks appropriately.  You have heard me speak of the importance of stillness and inner quiet from the very beginning of this website and newsletter over the years.  It has never been more true than now.

With the degree of mounting deception and emotionally driven behavior not only from the world around us, but also from within us (when we don't want to see the truth), the only way to stay centered is by coming to stillness and being in touch with the true guidance of our own intuition. On the internet and in the media we have people telling the truth and we have equally those deceiving or attempting to use elements of that truth to bring such confusion as to create doubt about what really is true.

It is only by following your own intuition, in quiet calm from within, that you, in your heart, will know what is true. So what exactly do we mean by intuition?  I hear intuition referred to so often as though it were emotion or feeling.  But this is not true.  We may have feelings and they can be "indicators", but feelings and emotions should never be the "interpretors" so to speak.

True intuition comes from that deep quiet part...what we see and know when we are in that place of utter quiet and stillness. Now it may be true that what we see from there can stir our emotions if we let it, but the message of the intuition is never emotion based...messages from the intuition are from the Source.  When you can master the ability to discern between intuition vs emotion, you will go a long way in balancing the inner aspects of your own nature and the understanding of your Divinity.

The "Image" portion of hexagram 51 (in the Wilhelm-Baynes translation of the I Ching) is always pointing to the correct behavior for the superior person.  So lets see what it has to say here:

Thunder repeated:  the image of SHOCK.

Thus in fear and trembling

The superior man (or woman) sets her life in order.

And examines herself."

(continuing in the feminine):

"The shock of continuing thunder brings fear and trembling.  The superior woman is always filled with the reverence at the manifestation of God;  She sets her life in order and searches her heart, lest it harbor any secret opposition to the will of God.  Thus reverence is the foundation of true culture."

I changed up the text here to the feminine because it is this aggressive masculine energy that is so out of balance, whether that is actually men or the masculine energy in women as well.  We all have both within us and to find peace we must find the balance between these yin/yang aspects of ourselves.

So find the quiet and nurture it with all that you are.  This is how you will find the balance. Quiet is not just sitting in meditation trying to quiet the mind  (although this is of course, very beneficial).  True quiet is when you have genuinely let go of your emotional attachments and found acceptance of all things just the way they are.  As I have said many times before, acceptance IS the key. It is our inner resistances that keep us constantly "stirred" emotionally.

True quiet then manifests as a way of being that shines through you in everything you do.  Haven't you ever witnessed people like that who are just so quiet and docile within that nothing shakes them?  They seem to be rare but they do exist.

In a thunderstorm, just as with a tornado or hurricane, at the very center is absolute stillness and quiet.  The center is what we are to emulate in order to appropriately meet the shocks in our world that will inevitably come.

May you be blessed by a greater understanding of Shock and Thunder

and how to be the center when storms come your way.

Our Meditation Time

In meditation, it is important to first devote some time to the body, allowing it to relax, adjusting your position to get as comfortable as you can.  I suggest doing this first before turning your attention to the breath.  One useful technique is to send compassion and kindness to any part of the body that is uncomfortable or in pain.  Another tool is to think of the most peaceful time you can ever of those times that you were blissfully still and quiet.  For a few brief moments try to remember it in detail to recall what that felt like...then let go of the memory and just be with the sense of stillness that remains.

Sit in a comfortable position with your feet on the floor and your back straight (it can be supported) and your hands in your lap.  Close your eyes, relax, and simply breath.  As you do so, focus only on the sensation of breathing in and breathing out.  Focus only on this movement of your breathing wherever it seems to be in your body.  Sit quietly doing nothing but this.  Try to remain perfectly still as you allow your body and your mind to come to quiet.  If thoughts arise, simply observe them.  Label them if you wish, then just let them go as you gently return your focus to your breathing (use general labels such as thinking, emotion, itching, pain, etc).

Try to do this first for short sessions of 10-15 minutes gradually increasing your time to 30 minutes to an hour or whatever is comfortable to you.

Doing this once or twice daily will greatly enhance your awareness and your ability to be present to your Divine Self.

This Issue Featuring:

From  Thunder

This song will be available for listening until the next newsletter issue

(approx. August 1st, 2013)

Of course I could think of no better song to feature than "Thunder" from my album "Thunder".  It speaks to everything we have been discussing here.

The beginnings of the song "Thunder" came from a dream I had in the summer of 1993.  Sometime later, the rest of the song came during an intense thunderstorm.  Thunder is the symbol of shock that brings quiet...the shock that releases tension.  Thunder is the height of movement, but within its total stillness.

I knew, when this song was given to me, that it was foretelling a time that was coming.  We are here now.  The "house of cards" will fall.  It is inevitable that this happen for the shift that is needed to occur.  We may deceive ourselves into believing we can forestall it...but it is coming.  It is part of our birthing process into a new world and new reality.

Remember, "God comes forth in thunder".  These are not just lyrics for a song.  It is the natural order and it will be.

The winds of fate are blowing now / The sky is turning gray

Thunder Beings dancing / They listen to us pray

When man sits all alone / It is himself that he must face

In the stillness of his truth / How it makes him so afraid

As he sees the limits of his power / He bows his head in humility

New life is born from Thunder!

Terrified and trembling / We watch the earth transform

We belong to her, but we forgot / We did not heed the warnings

And as we sit alone / It is ourselves that we must face

No one can decline / For we are all the human race

As we face the consequences of our deeds / Our hearts are filled with shame

The hooves of Thunder!

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Oh Thunder

Thunder, Thunder...Thunder!

Horse People talking / The silence is shocking / Stirring the heart of man

House of cards is collapsing / The people are asking / They sing the song of

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Oh Thunder

Thunder, Thunder...Thunder!

Terrified and trembling / We watch the earth transform

We belong to her, but we forgot / We did not heed her warnings

And as we sit alone / It is ourselves that we must face

In the stillness of the truth / The illusion falls away

As we see the limits of our power / We bow our heads in humility

God comes forth in Thunder...

In Thunder, In Thunder, In Thunder, In Thunder,

In Thunder!
